WATCH: You won’t believe what’s going on at our parishes

During this present time of crisis, many of us may see our parishes, schools, or mission activities as temporarily “closed” – but the truth is, they are not. In fact, far from it. They are simply being deployed differently.

Right now, your priests, deacons, parish staff, and teachers are all being asked to sacrifice, support others emotionally, and find new ways of serving. They have stepped up to meet these challenges in surprising and amazing ways that you wouldn’t believe!

Yet, while these same parishes are working tirelessly, they have not had a basket passed around the pews for weeks now, and may not for many more weeks to come… We cannot take their activities, or very existence, for granted.

After all, the Archdiocese of Denver is not a thing; it is us – each one of us.

We make up parishes, schools, and charities of varying sizes— all rooted in Jesus Christ. At this time our parishes are suffering financially like never before, and their ability to carry out Christ’s mission, now and into the future, depends on us.

You might be wondering, “But what can I do? How do I help?” #PassTheBasket is a grassroots effort designed to both raise up the amazing things our local parishes are doing and bring to the forefront the ways we can continue supporting them during this time.

So, the basket is now being passed into your hands. It’s in your pocket on your smartphone, or the computer on your desk. Please consider making a gift by visiting your own parish website. Or, you can also visit passthebasket.org to give to any parish in the Archdiocese of Denver.

Our local communities need us, now more than ever. And no matter how big or small our individual contributions might be, #PassTheBasket will impact the local parish of your choice directly— 100% of every gift goes directly to the parish of your choice!

We understand that if you’re reading this, you likely are hurting too. Please don’t give outside your means. If nothing else, offer a gift of prayer or look for ways you can get involved with local parish relief efforts.

Either way, virtually, #PassTheBasket to your friends, family, and parish community and invite them to do the same. Be sure to use the hashtag, #PassTheBasket on all forms of social media.

Together, let us celebrate the many unique and beautiful ways that our priests, deacons, parish staff, and teachers are all being deployed — faithfully serving us in the midst of this crisis!

While we all may be struggling right now, we will make it through this together, and when we do, may we appreciate the Mass, the Eucharist, and our community more than ever! However, for now we need to love and support our parishes as we eagerly await that day.

Thank you for your generosity!
