Deacon David Hall walks by rows of red lockers, memories floating in and out of conversation as he makes his way through the familiar classrooms.
It is within the walls of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic School in Denver that Deacon Hall first heard God’s call to the priesthood. He was just 6 years old.
On Saturday, Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila will ordain Deacon Hall and five others into the priesthood.
The Denver Catholic spent time with Deacon Hall at St. Vincent de Paul several months before his ordination. The walk down memory lane – and the school hallway – led him to reflect on the pivotal role his Catholic education played in shaping his vocation.
As Deacon Hall looks back, he can’t help but be filled with deep gratitude for his parents and their sacrifice. “The sacrifice itself is an outward sign in which I know the love they have for me,” he said.
And quite a sacrifice it was. According to Deacon Hall, his mom put well over 200,000 miles on a Honda Odyssey over 10 years to bring him and his three brothers to school at St. Vincent de Paul!
