Urgent need for volunteers and donations at Catholic Charities shelters as cold snap approaches

Good news from Catholic Charities: people are responding to the call for volunteers! Over 40 volunteers have offered to help out as Spanish-speakers and they’re taking shifts and working with the migrant families at Samaritan House. In addition, hundreds more have stepped up over the past month to help serve meals and help out with whatever’s needed.

That said, volunteers are still needed to help serve meals at the shelters and pitch in as Ambassadors (for Spanish-speakers, primarily). There remains an urgent need at Samaritan House for Spanish speaking volunteers to help welcome families who are arriving at Samaritan House on Lawrence Street. If you are interested in learning more about this opportunity, please reach out to Zach Taudien and Tony Schoenberger at shdvolunteers@ccdenver.org.

Additionally, with the imminent cold snap and subzero temperatures in Colorado, donations of material items are very much needed and appreciated. If you have any of the following items and would like to donate them to Catholic Charities, head down to Samaritan House Downtown, 2301 Lawrence Street, between 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday – Friday and 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

They’re always in need of the following items:

• New or gently used clothing for women, men and children – all sizes and types of clothing are appreciated. We are particularly looking for warm clothes to be used throughout the winter. • New undergarments still in the packaging, especially for women, are in short supply. • Personal hygiene items like lip balm, deodorant, toothpaste & toothbrushes, feminine products, shampoo and conditioner are needed and appreciated year-round. • Small household goods are always needed, but they can’t accept televisions, computers or furniture. Thanks for understanding.
