Built in 1888, the stately red brick St. Joseph Parish at 600 Galapago Street downtown is on the National Register of Historic Places. Recently, the parish was awarded two grants from History Colorado’s State Historical Fund. The grants are critical in repairing century-old deterioration and in preserving the architectural beauty of the church.
In gratitude for the awards, the parish will host a talk by historic preservation experts on how to care for older buildings, the benefits of preservation, and tips and tricks on care for older homes.
The free community event is set for 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 9 in the St. Joseph Parish gymnasium. Speakers include architect Jim Paull of JP Architecture, Kara Hahn of City Landmark, Shannon Stage of Historic Denver, and preservation architect Melanie Short.
