Joyful witness, joyful mission: “An Evening with St. Therese” auction and dinner benefits FOCUS miss

For more than 20 years, missionaries for the Fellowship of Catholic University Students (FOCUS) have served on college campuses around the country and even world, inviting other students into a relationship with Christ. Through Bible studies, events, mission trips and genuine discipleship, these missionaries live to share the Good News with others. Locally, FOCUS missionaries have been serving students at CU Boulder since 2006. As a result, more than 20 CU Boulder alumni involved with FOCUS have pursued religious vocations.

Being a joyful witness to Christ is a necessary part of discipleship. In support of their ministry, FOCUS at the CU Boulder invites you to join their mission in a night of faith, fellowship, and life-changing stories at the 15th annual “An Evening with St. Therese” auction and benefit dinner on Oct. 1.

“An Evening with St. Therese” is hosted by FOCUS at CU Boulder, and will feature Dr. Edward Sri and Beth Sri sharing a talk on “The Realities of Marriage: What We Wish We Knew Before We Were Married.” Dr. Sri is a theologian, author, well-known Catholic speaker, and currently serves as Vice President of Formation for FOCUS. Beth Sri is a graduate of Benedictine College and was among the first FOCUS missionaries.

“FOCUS events have changed my life,” said Maddie Cannon, Senior at CU. “I’ve been amazed at seeing so many peers on fire for their faith. I’ve been inspired to dive deeper in my faith and bolder in sharing the Gospel with others.”

“An Evening with St. Therese” will include wine, tasty hors d’oeuvres, a catered dinner, and a silent auction that includes vacation packages, jewelry, sacred artwork, gift certificates and much more. Funds raised at this event will help cover costs for CU students to attend SEEK22, FOCUS retreats, mission trips and other FOCUS events. All these events offer students the opportunity to live life-changing experiences, profound prayer, services, and fellowship.

Faith is not meant for us alone; it is meant to be shared with others. “An Evening with St. Therese” helps to make it possible for FOCUS missionaries to experience life-changing opportunities and to be formed as joyful witnesses.

“An Evening with St. Therese is an event not to be missed!” said Kate Schmid, a previous attendee. “This event is a great way to connect with the FOCUS community and to learn more about the hope, faith, and the power FOCUS brings to our campus and to all of us!”

Sponsors include Greenwood & Myers Mortuary, Hazel’s Beverage World, Ed and Sue Husler, Diane and Steve King, Knights of Columbus Council #1183, Serra Club of Boulder County and Nothing Bundt Cakes. Interested sponsors can contact Matt Mindrup at matthew.mindrup@focus.org.

“Being around so many dynamic Catholics for an evening really gives me a spiritual boost,” Schmid concluded. “This event demonstrates the success of FOCUS and its missionaries on the CU campus and around the country as well.”

“An Evening with St. Therese” will take place on Friday, Oct. 1, from 5:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Mary Church in Boulder. Babysitting for children ages 1 and older will be available. For more information and registration, visit focus.org/ewst.
