Get comfortable with death at upcoming events at Denver’s Catholic cemetery

The Catholic Funeral & Cemetery Services (CFCS) has upcoming fun fall events meant to make people more comfortable with end-of-life issues and raise awareness of services offered through the ministry.

“Night at the Cemetery” for middle and high school students and “Brew Night at the Cemetery” for adults over 21 are tours that include engaging information about saints of the past with actors, an outdoor Mass, and refreshments.

“The matter of death can be scary, yet we can help people understand it in a fun and faith-filled way,” said Deacon Marc Nestorick, cemetery outreach manager.

In addition to year-round events that educate and empower families on how to make end-of-life decisions, CFCS offers several other support programs, such as free grief support, free burial for those without means, and the Precious Lives mission, which assists families through the difficult loss of a child at birth or in pregnancy.

Nestorick said that those who participate in a pre-planning process for a funeral become more comfortable with understanding death as a stop between this life and eternal life. Christian burial rites help people work through the grief process, including feeling a sense of closure and helping people overcome their own fear of death.

The Catholic funeral ministry is a full-service provider for advanced planning and end-of-life needs with professional and compassionate advisors who want to reduce family burdens and give education, support and resources during life’s most difficult moments. It has two locations —Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Wheat Ridge and St. Simeon in Aurora.

“Those who begin the pre-planning process find their spirituality grow when they realize that this is not an end, but the beginning of the next journey,” Nestorick said.

Ministries like those offered through Mount Olivet are part of the Archdiocese of Denver and bring Christ to others throughout northern Colorado. The archdiocese shares the impact of the CFCS and other important ministries through the Archbishop’s Catholic Appeal. The appeal is the Archdiocese of Denver’s largest annual fundraiser.
