Around the Archdiocese: Parishes

Walk to Jerusalem

For the second consecutive year during Lent, the Health and Wellness Ministry of Most Precious Blood Parish coordinated a Walk to Jerusalem. Participating parishioners aimed to walk 6,890 miles—the distance from Denver to Jerusalem—from Ash Wednesday to Easter Sunday, reflecting on the day’s Scripture as they exercised. In the end, they logged more than 7,600 miles. To celebrate, the group, pictured here, gathered at MPB April 26 for a final lap then enjoyed refreshments at Observatory Park. “All hope to continue their practice of prayer and fitness throughout the year and look forward to next year!” said Christine Maschka, pastoral care associate.

Students explore justice

Assumption School sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students took a field trip to the Colorado State Supreme Court and state Capitol downtown April 9 for a behind-the-scenes tour. The youths toured the library, met Justice Brian Boatright and explored a courtroom. “It inspired me to be more of a role model and be a leader and, it also inspired me to become a lawyer,” said eighth-grader Ruby Freyre-Perez. The students also toured the House of Representatives and met Rep. Dominick Moreno. “I thought it was fun because we got to learn how the process works and how to make new laws,” said eighth-grader Jackson Horan.

Run for Souls

Runners beat the cold weather and participated in All Souls’ Parish annual 5K Run for Souls April 27 at Clement Park in Littleton. About 350 families, religious and youths began the event with Mass in the park and then raced near Johnson Reservoir. The event concluded with lunch.
