Archdiocese unified in consecration to Immaculate Heart

The air of the Archdiocese of Denver will be thick with prayer this Friday, Oct. 13, at 8:45 p.m.

That is when Archbishop Samuel J. Aquila will lead thousands of faithful attending some 70 different events across the Archdiocese of Denver in a prayer of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, asking for her protection and guidance.

Parishes, missions and individual Catholics will join the archbishop via livestream for the Marian consecration, which will take place at the end of a prayer vigil at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception.

The date marks the 100th anniversary of the Miracle of the Sun in 1917, which took place during the last apparition of Our Lady of Fatima’s six appearances to the three shepherd children of Fatima, Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco.

“Mary wishes to assist us, through her Immaculate Heart, in bringing the world back to God. This is why I am encouraging people to join me in consecrating themselves, their families, parishes, and the archdiocese to her Immaculate Heart,” Archbishop Aquila said.

Earlier this year, Archbishop Aquila invited parishes across the archdiocese to participate, either in attending the service at the cathedral, or within their own parishes through a livestream.

The Marian prayer vigil at the Cathedral Basilica will include a rosary, preaching, adoration, and the consecration prayer.

Many parishes will livestream the entire event at their parish, but others have decided to do a similar event without the livestream, or to hold a special Fatima Mass.

Whichever option the parish chose, each one will make the act of consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary at 8:45 p.m., so that all parishes, together with the Archbishop, will make the act of consecration at the same time.
