Archbishop Aquila establishes Cabrini Teaching Fellows

On January 30th, Archbishop Aquila issued a decree establishing the Cabrini Teaching Fellows in the Archdiocese of Denver directing it to “form teachers to be better prepared to deliver an education imbued with Christian Spirit [and] grounded in the principles of Catholic doctrine.”

Cabrini Teaching Fellows is an independent program dedicated to nurturing long-term growth and providing support to faith-driven individuals as they embark on a lasting career in education within the Archdiocese of Denver.

A three-year postgraduate fellowship, Cabrini Teaching Fellows exists to contribute to Catholic school renewal in the Archdiocese of Denver. Fellows will be part of a supportive, spirit-driven community that will assist in individual formation, equip teachers with tools for success and provide a life in community.

Fellows will spend three years teaching in the Archdiocese of Denver to aid in the renewal of the Catholic faith within mission-aligned schools. Fellows will not only serve as exemplary role models for their students but also acquire invaluable life skills, training and personal growth opportunities that will enable them to flourish both during their three-year tenure and in their lives beyond the fellowship.

Fellows will live together in reduced-rent housing and will experience mentoring, faith-formation, outdoor adventure and holistic formation in addition to the professional development they receive as a first-year teacher so they can be successful and fulfilled in and outside of the classroom.

Four schools have been selected to host the inaugural class of fellows. The pilot year includes Wellspring Catholic Academy of St. Bernadette, Frassati Catholic Academy, Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic STEM School, and St. Stephen’s School.

Cabrini Teaching Fellows plans to expand and increase capacity, allowing it to serve schools across the Archdiocese of Denver in the coming years. This will help contribute to the renewal of Catholic education by providing mission-driven, well-trained and well-supported disciples to the wonderful Catholic schools of this archdiocese. The program has the ability to provide long-term solutions to the problems of recruiting and retaining excellent young teachers for many schools.

The three-year formation program for the fellows works hand in hand with the Office of Catholic Schools’ formation and accrediting programs. Fellows within the program will go through the Catholic Educator Formation Credentialing Program which the Archdiocese established in conjunction with the Institute for Catholic Liberal Education. This formation program provides an alternative method of credentialing teachers with the freedom to provide sound pedagogical training formed by a true understanding of the human person as taught by the Church. This credentialing and formation program also provides fellows with credits towards a graduate degree at the completion of the program.

Ideal candidates are recent college graduates who have a strong faith and would like to grow in community and vocation in our Catholic schools. Prospective fellows do not need to have a teaching degree or experience in the classroom to apply.

Applications are being accepted now! If interested, please go to Cabriniteachingfellows.com for more information and access to the application.
